Vietnam to launch commercial 5g services in June 2020

Viettel – Vietnam’s largest telecommunication company – will launch commercial 5G mobile services from June 2020.

According to the military-run company’s statement, they would use 5G network equipment and software developed itself. Besides, the company has become the sixth firm to produce 5G network equipment in the world.

Viettel said it would develop both civilian and military services based on its 5G platform.

The statement came after they conducted its first trial video call on its 5G network the same day.

$44 million was invested for machine learning, AI in Vietnam

A well-known corporation in Vietnam has announced a research fund worth VND1 trillion ($44 million) for its Institute of Big Data to focus on fields like machine learning and artificial intelligence.

To be set up next year, it will be helmed by its Professor educated in Yale University for the first three years.

He said the fund would not only help train and educate scientists and students in applied science, but also support universities and scientific institutions in developing science projects for societal benefit.

He has been a member of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics since 2011.

He is regarded as one of the world’s leading mathematicians in probability and statistics and number theory.

Recently the corporation announced its intention to become a tech-centric corporation by 2028, focusing on fields such as software, material science and artificial intelligence.
